Most thermostats have a button on the bottom which, when pressed, will open up the inside of the thermostat. Here you can remove and replace the batteries in your thermostat.
If your thermostat does not have this bottom button, no need to worry, it may be on the top or side of the thermostat. It may not have one at all and can simply be opened up with ease. Once the batteries are replaced, close up the thermostat and check it is working again.
Before starting make sure you check your boiler manual. Every boiler is different, so re-pressurising may be done in a different way for your boiler than what you may find online.
The first step in repressurising your boiler is to make sure it actually needs to be repressured. This can be done, firstly, by making sure that your boiler is off and has cooled down. It is best if you leave your boiler off for at least one hour before beginning. Once off, check the water pressure gauge on the front of your boiler. If your boiler gauge reads less than one bar, your boiler pressure is too low.

Worcester Bosch Boilers
1. Remove the hatch on the underside of the boiler
2. Find the boiler filling link (a small hole to the right of a white square)
3. Firmly push the key into the filling link until the arrow meets the black plastic
4. Turn the key anti-clockwise until the arrow faces you
5. Turn the white square gently clockwise to allow cold mains water into the system. You should hear this
6. Wait for water pressure to reach between 1 and 1.5 on the pressure gauge (no higher than 1.5!)
7. Once pressure is between set limits turn the square back to its original position to shut off the water
8. Catch any spills underneath the boiler with an old towel before filling the key back around and taking it out
9. Dry off the key and place it back into the tray before placing the hatch back
10. Switch the boiler on and, if necessary, press the reset button

Baxi Boilers
1. Look under your boiler to find the easy fill permanent filling link
2. Operate the green lever until the pressure gauge shows movement
3. Make sure your pressure is between 1 and 1.5 (do NOT go above 1.5 as this may damage your boiler)
4. Once the pressure is sorted within desired parameters release the lever back to its original position
5. Use a cloth or towel to catch any drops of water from the air break on the filling link
6, Check the central heating system and radiators for any signs of water leaks

Vaillant Boilers
1. Turn off boiler and leave for at least one hour to cool down
2. Inspect the boiler filling loop
3. Turn the isolation valve anti-clockwise to adjust the water pressure.
4. Make sure pressure doesn’t exceed 1.5, but above 1
5. Once pressure is restored, close both the handle valve and isolation valve
6. Turn the boiler on and check if everything is working correctly
If your boiler is not compatible with a filling loop there is an alternative way to repressurise your Vaillant boiler.
1. Turn off the boiler and wait at least one hour for it to cool down
2. Insert filling key into keyhole and unlock it
3. Turn the valve next to the key until water flows through (a wrench or spanner is recommended for this)
4. Monitor the valve until it reaches recommended pressure levels (between 1 and 1.5)
5. Close the valve and turn the boiler back on

Ideal Boilers
1. Turn off your boiler and wait at least one hour before starting
2. Check that each end of the filling loop is intact
3. Turn the valve (typically anti-clockwise) so that it’s open, allowing water to flow into the system
4. Monitor the pressure gauge and set it between 1 and 1.5
5. Once the desired reading is achieved, close the valve
6. Use a cloth or towel to catch any drops of water that may have fallen from the air break on the filling link
7. Turn your boiler back on to check if everything is working
If the condensate pipe becomes frozen your boiler’s sensors will detect it and will prevent your boiler from producing hot water or heating. An unfamiliar, gurgling sound may also be heard coming from your boiler. It’s imperative that this problem is resolved before any real damage occurs.
The condensate pipe is fairly easy to find as it is the only plastic pipe on your boiler leading outside of your home.
Depending on your boiler, certain fault codes may appear on your boilers display screen. Once your condensate pipe becomes frozen it is recommended that you turn off your boiler until the pipe has been cleared.
Thawing out a condensate pipe can be completed yourself by following these steps:
Turn off your boiler
Locate the blockage in your pipe. This is typically where the pipe is most exposed, so probably outside of your home
Thaw the pipe by using a hot water bottle or a microwavable heating pack. You may also pour hot water, but NOT boiling water onto the blockage. Be careful of water freezing on the ground beneath you
Once the blockage has cleared, check your boiler manufacturers website for guidance on any potential alarms you may have to turn off
Turn on your boiler and test if your hot water and heating are working again
We recommend talking to our engineers before changing settings on your boiler if you're unsure how to amend them.
However if you have checked your boilers manual you can often adjust the boilers flow temperature yourself. The flow temperature is often symbolised as a radiator graphic, you can either turn the dial or use the up and down arrows depending on your type of boiler.
